Matthew 5-6 (only 6 if you already read 5)
This is all part of the Sermon on the Mount, and it is advice given to his apostles that is meant for all who want to receive celestial glory. We talked about some of the advice that Christ gave so that we can better our lives and live the higher law. What other advice does he give in 5 and 6?
SCRIPTURE HELPS:
Take heed: Make sure
Alms: Help for the poor
Synagogues: Churches, places of worship and study
Vain repetitions: Repeating the same things over and over in a way that does not mean anything.
Heathen: People who do not believe in the true and living God.
Hallowed: Holy, Sacred.
Debts: Sins, faults, offenses
Trespasses: Sins
Countenance: Appearance, especially in expression on the face
Disfigure: Make it look bad
Corrupt: Ruin
Despise: Strongly dislike, hate
Mammon: Worldly riches.
Raiment: Clothing
Sow: Plant
Reap: To pick or harvest rip fruits or vegetables
Add one cubit to his stature: Increase his height
Toil: Work
Spin: Make yarn or thread for cloth
Arrayed: Clothed (meaning taken care of)
Wherewithal: How
Sufficient unto the day is evil therof: Take care of today's work and don't let teh problems foreseeable in the future rob you of what you can accomplish today.
