Make-up Work

01/24/12

Read Samuel 3

This is kind of a comical story about what happens when the Lord tries to get Samuel's attention. What happens when the Lord calls out to Samuel? How can we recognize the Lord's voice in our own lives? What choices should we make to be prepared for revelation? How can we receive revelation for ourselves?

01/23/12

Read Samuel 1

This is a beautiful story about Hannah and her faith. What is it that she prays for? What does she vow to the Lord? Does she keep her promise? What is the lesson that we can learn from Hannah and her faith?

December Make-up work:

Please read in Numbers 6. What does the Lord mean when he says "separate" yourself from the world? What does this mean for you, and how can you "separate" yourself from the wickedness of the world?

Also {for another makeup day from Chapter 6}

Read this quote:

"We are different. We are a peculiar people. We hope we shall always be unusual and peculiar." -In the World but Not of It

Make a plan to strengthen yourself so that you can remain pure from the world's temptations and you can remain part of his peculiar people. One of the ways you can do that is to read your scriptures. Write down your plan to get your reading done each day.

11/15/11

Read Exodus 21-23 to understand better the law of Moses. After, read Matt 5:38-48 {This is spoken by Jesus, and we referred to it as "Christ's law" in class}. How is the new law given by Christ in the book of Matthew different from the law of Moses? Does following Christ's law require more faith, why?

11/14/11

The 10 commandments:  This one is very easy :) Read through Exodus 19:3-17, and fill out the chart below. You can just copy the image and paste it into a word document. Once it is filled out you can hand it in as make-up work!

Read through Chapter 16. The Lord blessed the children of Israel with manna, with instructions to only gather and Omer (2 quarts) of manna per person, and no extra, except on the 6th day. Write down and bring to me: What happened to the manna of those who did not listen to the Lord's instructions? What was the Lord trying to teach the children of Israel through these specific instructions?

10/31/11 and 11/01/11 {this counts for 2 days worth of makeup work}

Read Exodus chapters 7-10. These chapters are about the plagues that Pharaoh brought on himself and his people because he would not let the Children of Israel leave Egypt. Please record why Pharaoh would not let the people go? Do we sometimes hold onto our sins for the same reason? After, please look at the chart below. After the looking at the knowledge this chart provides, do you think that the Lord chose those plagues for a reason? What affect would these plagues have on the people of Egypt who believed in multiple gods at the time of Moses? {If you have a hard time understanding these instructions feel free to talk to me after class and I will help you understand them better :) Or your parents might be able to help also!}

Tell me why it is that you come to Seminary. Right down on a sheet of paper that reason, then find some corresponding scriptures and write them under your reason for coming. (i.e. "putting on the armor of God").

10/03/11

Right down a talk that you liked from conference weekend, or a series of subjects that appeared a lot that stuck out to you (i.e. charity, faith, service). Come show me in class or talk to me about that talk.

09/26/11

Please copy this image into a Word document and print it out. Then use Genesis 22 to help fill out the similarities between God's asking Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, and the sacrifice of Christ during the atonement (ex. both were only begotten sons). Please then show me the complete work before or after class.
