Hello! I hope you guys are having a wonderful break!

If you could please email me {ruby.findley@gmail.com} and let me know your reading numbers for December that would be great :)

If I don't here from you I will just assume that you didn't get any reading done :) I tried to give you all a call, but wasn't able to get a hold of anyone, so I am going to put this up as a last ditch effort for all of you who did reading to get it to me!

Hope to hear from you :)

Sis. Findley

Monday, December 19, 2011

Just a reminder, no class for the rest of the break :) Merry Christmas! I hope you have a wonderful break.

I need any make up work for this quarter by Friday of this week! Please do at least 5 of the makeup works already on the blog and then I can work with you on something else if you still need some help. Please email me if you are unsure about your grade/ amount of absences to make up. My email is ruby. Findley@gmail.com

See you guys after the break! Remember your reading:

Numbers 24-27

After you have read these thoroughly read from your book of Mormon so you can still receive those wonderful blessings :)

Hey everyone :)

Your reading for tonight is:

Numbers 22-24

The children of Israel have wandered in the wilderness now for 40 years and have been given the chance to obtain the promised land. Read the story of Balaam. Make note of what he was unable to sacrifice for the Lord. How can we avoid falling into this same trap?

See you tomorrow :) I have a little something to give each of you for Christmas so I hope to see you there :)

Thursday, December 15, 2011

Hey guys,

Just a reminder that we are playing "dirty Santa" tomorrow :) please bring something wrapped to pass around that is 5 dollars or less. If you are worried about money, try making a yummy treat to pass around :)

Wednesday, December 14, 2011

Sorry so late everyone :)

I know that for most of you, this post has come to late and you are already in bed, but just in case you check it in the mornings before Seminary I thought I would post it anyway :) Your reading for tonight (or tomorrow morning) is:

Numbers 6

While reading, look closely at the verses in this chapter and count how many times the words separation, separate, and separateth are used. Why do you think this point was so important that it was said to them this many times? I can't wait to hear your thoughts on this :)

I will see you all tomorrow I hope!

Sis. Findley

p.s. For those who were not here today, your classmates have requested that we have a "dirty santa" this Friday. Please bring a gift (wrapped so no one can see what is inside) for Friday's "dirty santa" game. $5 or less, we don't need you spending all your savings, this is just a fun game to play around Christmas time :)

Tuesday, December 13, 2011

Hello everyone :)

Link had a wonderful time hanging with you guys today :) Your reading for tonight is:

Numbers 1 and 2

Notice how the camp was laid out. Where was the tabernacle located? Why do you think the Lord would have them set up their camp this way?

I'll see you tomorrow!

Sis. Findley

Sunday, December 11, 2011

Hello everyone :)

The last couple chapters that we have talked about in class have been about how to BECOME clean, the next chapters are how to REMAIN clean. So your reading assignment is to choose a chapter from:

Leviticus 17-27

Choose one chapter to talk about in class. While reading that chapter, think about how it can help you to stay clean.

I will see you tomorrow!

See you tomorrow!

Sis. Findley

Wednesday, December 7, 2011

Hello everyone :)

We have been talking a lot about the children of Israel, and what the Lord expected of them to become clean. Now let's read a little about what he expects them {and us} to do to remain clean:

Leviticus 18

Pick out 1 or 2 specific commandments that are being taught. Once you have found 2, ask yourself what you can do to help live that commandment. Be prepared to share a little something with the class {if it is not to personal} because we would all love to be spiritually edified by your comment :)

Love,

Sis. Findley

Tuesday, December 6, 2011

Hello everyone :)

Your reading for tonight is:

Leviticus 11

While reading think about a commandment that we have been given that is similar to what heavenly father is giving to them at this time.

Can't wait to hear your thoughts tomorrow!

Sis. Findley

I will see you tomorrow!

Sis. Findley

Sunday, December 4, 2011

Hey everyone :) I hope you have had a wonderful weekend! Here is your reading assignment for tonight:

Leviticus 1-6. Please just choose 1 of the chapters and study all you can from that 1 chapter about waht that offering was used for, and how it was accomplished.

I will see you tomorrow!!

Sis. Findley

Thursday, December 1, 2011

Hey guys, two posts in one day! Yay for you!

I am just letting you all know that I will not be there tomorrow because I am not feeling too great and I don't want to pass anything on to you lovely folks before the weekend. Please be respectful of Br. Anderson, and be sure I will check with him to make sure you guys were quiet and listened well. If I get a great report back then I will relinquish assigned seats for your last week (next week).

Miss you guys and hopefully I will see you Monday :)

Love,

Sis Findley

p.s. I would also love to know who took the challenge to ignore "idols" and do the reading, so continue this challenge throughout the weekend and we will discuss it more on Monday. For those of you who have forgotten, the challenge is this:  Before you sit down to watch television, play video games, get on the computer (all things that can become idols if we let them take our thoughts away from our Heavenly Father), think to yourself "have I read my scriptures today?". "The Lord gives no commandment unto the children of men save he shall prepare a way for them..". When we have a desire to grow closer to Heavenly Father through the scriptures he will help us make that time :)
Hello everyone :) we had an excellent class today and I am so grateful to all those who participated. You guys are amazing :)

Your reading for tonight is:

Exodus 33

While reading, pay attention to verses 33:20 and check out John 1:18. If these verses are true how can God appear to Joseph smith? Prepare to be a missionary and think about what you would say to an investigator with this question :) I can't wait to hear your answers!

See you tomorrow,

Sis. Findley

Wednesday, November 30, 2011

Hello everyone,

Your reading for tonight is:

Exodus 32

Please come prepared with any thoughts or questions you might have from this chapter :)

See you tomorrow!

Sis. Findley

Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Hello everyone :) So far you are doing awesome on being quiet and are on the right track to not being in assigned seats next week! Hooray for you! Now let's see if you can do as awesome on your reading :) It is:

Exodus 28:1-2, and 29

How does this information about Aaron and his sons being set apart affect how you feel about the temple? Does this information help you know how you should prepare to enter the House of the Lord?

I can't wait to hear any thoughts you have on this :) I will see you guys tomorrow!

Sis. Findley

Monday, November 28, 2011

Hello everyone,

This one is a little late, but I am writing just in case some have not checked the blog yet :) Your reading assignment is:

Exodus 28

Yes, this is the same scripture as yesterday, but I would like you to go over it one more time and think about what it is that Heavenly Father would like us to learn from these verses. Bring any thoughts you have to class :)

See you tomorrow!

Sis. Findley

Sunday, November 27, 2011

Hello guys! I hope you had a fabulous Thanksgiving break and I can't wait to hear all about it tomorrow :) Along with anything wonderful you pick up from the reading, which is:

Exodus 28

While reading this, notice the importance of the Aaron's breastplate and the significance of each item on it. This obviously was of importance if it is written in the scriptures. When are we asked to wear special things, and why? Be prepared to bring your answers to class :)

See you tomorrow!!

Sis. Findley

Friday, November 18, 2011

Hello my friends :)

Here is your assignment if so choose to accept {aka if you want that treat that your 4 fellow students have already earned}. Your assignment/reading is to:

Find a talk from general conference that relates to the commandments, whether it talks about 1 or more of the 10 commandments, or whether it is a new commandment given by the prophet or apostles. Once you have found this talk be prepared to tell the class about what you have found and what blessings we receive when we follow those commandments.

I cannot wait to hear what you have found, and I hope {if only for your tummies sake} that you take the time to find something to share :)

I will see you guys Monday!

Love,

Sis. Findley

Thursday, November 17, 2011

Hello everyone!

Because we are so far ahead of schedule, I would like you to choose ANY chapter from your scriptures to read. Be prepared to tell us all why you chose that scripture. If the majority of the class has something to share, then I will share a little something with you :)

See you tomorrow!

Sis. Findley

Wednesday, November 16, 2011

Hello everyone :)

Here is your reading for tonight:

Exodus 25-27 and 30

In this reading you will learn about the House of the Lord that Moses is instructed to build. Make note in your journal, while you read, the specific rooms that they were asked to build and their significance. These things will be to your benefit to know before you come to class :)

I will see you tomorrow!

Sis. Findley

Tuesday, November 15, 2011

Thought I forgot you again? No way, this post is for the doubters :)

Your reading assignment for tonight has actually changed (surprise! I love to change things on you). It is now a collage of scattered verses:

Exodus 19: 3-6
Exodus 19: 7-8
Exodus 19: 10-11
Exodus 20: 3-17
Exodus 20: 18-19
Exodus 24: 9-11

Before we move on from the 10 commandments, I want to take some time to discuss the importance and benefit of such commandments. While reading through these verses, pay attention to what was lost to those who could not follow, and what was gained for those who could, and be prepared to answer in class how this knowledge affects your choices.

See you all tomorrow!

Sis. Findley

Monday, November 14, 2011

Hello everyone!

The reading for tonight is:

Exodus 21-24

Remember that you do not have to read all of this (even though you are more than welcome too and I'm sure you will receive many blessings for it!), just read 1 of the chapters and find at least 1 punishment/consequence for breaking one of the commandments listed in that chapter. Be prepared to share in class :)

See you tomorrow!

Sis. Findley

Wednesday, November 9, 2011

Hello everyone!

Today was awesome and everyone participated really well. I appreciate days like today, so thank you :)

Your reading for tonight is:

Exodus 20:1-17

It is not even a full chapter! I believe in you! While reading, make special note of the 10 commandments and what they are. Who knows, it might help you out tomorrow...

See you tomorrow bright and early,

Sis. Findley

Tuesday, November 8, 2011

Hello everyone!

I hope you had a wonderful Tuesday :) Here is your reading for tonight, I hope you can find a little bit of time to read, and maybe to encourage someone in our class to read as well. The reading is:

Exodus 18 and 19 (specifically 19) and D&C 84:23-24

While reading this, pay attention to what the children of Israel gave up, and why, by not entering into Mt. Sinai.

Also, please make sure to bring your journals tomorrow! And maybe send a note to someone who might not get this message. Let's learn from Cain's example and not ask "Am I my brother's keeper?", but look for ways to bless those in our class and those around us :)

Love you all,

Sis. Findley

Monday, November 7, 2011

Hello everyone :)

The reading for tonight is:

Exodus 16 and 17

While reading, think about when we talked of gratitude on Fri. What would you say to the children of Israel and their murmurings?

See you tom :)

Sis. Findley

Thursday, November 3, 2011

Hey everyone,

Sorry it has taken me three days to write again! What an AMAZING time today, learning about the Passover. Sis. Hobbs and her family are awesome for putting that on for us, and I don't know about you guys buy I am excited that I got to participate in our ancestors culture before the sacrament was implemented in its place. Thanks again to the Hobbs family :)

The reading for tonight is:

Exodus 14 and 15

We are reaching the "Exodus" in which the book was named after. The Hebrews "exiting" Egypt. Read these chapters that document the first few days after leaving and notice the many miracles that Heavenly Father gave them so that they could escape servitude.

Also, pay attention to how the Hebrews act in Chapter 15. Are they grateful for what the Lord has done for them?

I will see you guys tomorrow!

Sis. Findley

Thursday, October 27, 2011

Hello everyone!

I will make sure to actually publish this post, and not accidentally save it like yesterday :)

The reading for tonight is:

Exodus 9-10

Pay attention to the other plagues, we are going to be talking tomorrow about why God chose those specific curses, and how they relate to the signs of the times before the second coming. All these exciting parallels!

See you tomorrow :)

Sis. Findley

Tuesday, October 25, 2011

Hello :)

I hope you all remembered to hand your report cards to your parents! You all are doing awesome, and I am grateful to have you ALL in my class.

Here is the reading for tonight:

Exodus 5 (yes, I said 6 in class also, but I changed my mind so just read 5)

This is a troubling time for the Hebrews because in Chapter 5 they actually get worked more harshly because Pharaoh is angry with Moses asking to "Let my people go". Is there a time where the Lord has taught you something, or strengthened your testimony, through a trial in your life?

I love to hear from you guys, so hopefully you really think about an answer to this question :)

Love you all,

Sis. Findley

Monday, October 24, 2011

Hello!

I wanted to do a quick recap about what we learned today so that when you do your reading, you are aware of Moses's life up to this point:

  • Pharaoh was worried about the large numbers of Hebrews, so he put them into bondage (doing hard labor).
  • This didn't stop their numbers from growing so he then had their sons killed at birth.
  • The Midwives believed in God so they would not kill them and told Pharaoh that the women just had the babies before they got there.
  • God blessed the Midwives and their own families.
  • Moses is born and hid for 3 months.
  • His mother sends him down the river in a small boat.
  • Daughter of Pharaoh finds the baby and has mercy on him, raises Moses as her own.
  • She calls Moses's mom to be his Midwife (watch over him as he grows), not knowing that she is his real mother.
  • Moses is then able to learn from his mother the true principles of the gospel which prepares him to be prophet many years later.
  • Moses finds an Egyptian beating a slave to death, so he protects the Hebrew slave and ends up killing the Egyptian.
  • He has to flee Egypt. He becomes a shepard.

Ok, there is our quick recap :) Here is your reading for tonight:

Exodus 3-4

While reading chapter 3, pay attention to what the Lord asks of Moses because he is on holy ground. When are we asked to do that?

In Chapter 4, pay close attention to the concerns that Moses has about being a prophet. What signs/miracles does the Lord say he will perform, through Moses, to help the descendants of Israel believe him?

You guys are amazing, and I love you see your wonderful faces every day :)

Love,

Sis. Findley

See you tomorrow!

Sis. Findley

Sorry, the reading is actually 39 and 40! If you don't think someone is going to read the blog, maybe call that person and help them out so that they are on the same page as us :)

While reading, pay attention the ups and downs that Joseph faces. Also, what does Joseph do when faced with temptation from Potiphar's wife?

Hello everyone,

Your reading is going to be a little different for tomorrow's class. Instead of a chapter, I would like you to:

Find a scripture that relates to why you come to seminary (i.e. gain blessings, be spiritually fed). Bring that scripture to class and answer:

Why do YOU come to seminary?

See you tomorrow :)

Sis. Findley

Sunday, October 2, 2011

I hope you are enjoying conference! There have been some wonderful talks, and I cannot wait to discuss those things that have impressed you as you have listened. Already I have heard answers to a couple of the questions you posed in class, I hope you were listening :)

Friday, September 30, 2011

Hello everyone :)

Remember to find something from both Sat and Sunday's conference talks and be prepared to share in class. This is not an optional assignment, but one that you will need to receive credit for, so please remember this.

Thank you for all the wonderful insights you have shared from last session's talks. The spirit was very strong as I listened to your testimonies.

See you on Monday :)

Sis. Findley

Thursday, September 29, 2011

Can I just say how amazing you guys are? I LOVED what you had to say about last Conference talks, and I was so touched by your testimonies as you shared of there importance to you. I can't wait to hear more tomorrow.

In tomorrow's class we are going to watch a short clip from an amazing talk by Elder Holland. If you could please watch the video of his talk, that will help you understand the significance of the short clip in class. While watching, pay attention to the emotion that Elder Holland puts into his talk. This is one of my favorite talks of all time to watch because he is so passionate about his testimony for the Book of Mormon. I promise you won't be disappointed in the time you put into watching it.

Enjoy!

Love,

Sis. Findley

Wednesday, September 28, 2011

Hey guys, I wanted to follow up on a question that was asked today. Here is something that I found that talked about celestial marriage, and this is from the Church Handbook:

Husband and Wife

Exaltation in the highest degree of the celestial kingdom can be attained only by those who have faithfully lived the gospel of Jesus Christ and are sealed as eternal companions.
The sealing of husband and wife for time and eternity by the authority of the priesthood—also known as temple marriage—is a sacred privilege and obligation that all should strive to receive. It is the foundation of an eternal family.
The nature of male and female spirits is such that they complete each other. Men and women are intended to progress together toward exaltation.
The Lord has commanded husbands and wives to cleave to each other (seeGenesis 2:24D&C 42:22). In this commandment, the word cleave means to be completely devoted and faithful to someone. Married couples cleave to God and one another by serving and loving each other and by keeping covenants in complete fidelity to one another and to God (see D&C 25:13).
A couple is to become one in establishing their family as the basis of a righteous life. Latter-day Saint husbands and wives leave behind their single life and establish their marriage as the first priority in their lives. They allow no other person or interest to have greater priority in their lives than keeping the covenants they have made with God and each other. Nonetheless, married couples continue to love and support their parents and siblings while focusing on their own families. Similarly, wise parents realize that their family responsibilities continue throughout life in a spirit of love and encouragement.
Being one in marriage requires a full partnership. For example, Adam and Eve worked together, prayed and worshipped together, sacrificed together, taught their children the gospel together, and mourned over wayward children together (see Moses 5:1, 4, 12, 27). They were united with each other and with God.

I know the question was: "If my spouse dies, then can I be sealed again to another, and if I do, what happens then?"
Ultimately, God has asked us to have a temple marriage. We will do as he has commanded, and know that Heavenly Father loves us dearly, and all things will work out in the end because he only wants us to have eternal life with him, and to live "happily ever after" :)
I hope that gives you some clarification :)
Now, as far as reading:
Find a Conference talk that speaks to you personally and be prepared to bring a copy of that and to talk to the class about that talk.
See you guys tomorrow :)
Love you,
Sis. Findley

Tuesday, September 27, 2011

Hey guys, you were wonderful today with your participation and with being less noisy, I really appreciated it and I hope you could tell the difference in spirit between today and yesterday :)

The reading for tomorrow's lesson is:

Pay attention to Esau's respect/or lack of, when it comes the the covenant, and be prepared to talk about it tomorrow :)

See you later!

Sis. Findley

Monday, September 26, 2011

Hello my chatterboxes,

I know I said the reading today was JUST Genesis 23, but it is ACTUALLY:

Genesis 23 AND 24.

This is why it is so important to check the blog :) Because believe it or not I can be scatterbrained sometimes too :)

Also,

Note that there is a "make-up work" button on the side of the page. This is new! If you ever miss a day, you can just click on that button, look up the make-up work for that day, follow those instructions, and then give the make-up work to me in class. If you have missed a lot of days before today when the button was made, please come speak to me before or after class and I will work with you.

This is because I love you and want to make sure that you are able to graduate from seminary because it is something that is very important to me, and hopefully will become important to you also.

Love you and I will see you tomorrow,

Sis. Findley

Saturday, September 24, 2011

Hello everyone!

I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend. I know I am!

Here is the reading to have done before Monday:

Genesis 21 and 22

These chapters are about Isaac and Abraham being asked to sacrifice Isaac. While reading, notice Abraham's reaction to this request from the Lord, and ask yourself how you respond when you are asked to sacrifice time/talents/other things important to you?

Please make sure to bring your scripture journal to class {you know, the one you got when you first came, it's brown with Christ on the front}.

I will see you Monday!

Remember to keep reading during the weeked,

Sis. Findley

Wednesday, September 21, 2011

Moses 5, Genesis 4

Be prepared to bring something to class that sticks out to you personally! You will be rewarded spiritually...and possibly another way as well.

Thanks for being so awesome! See you tomorrow

Sis. Findley

Friday, September 2, 2011

Hello everyone, Pres. Hobbs has delightfully informed me that we are ok to have a blog as long as I follow some guidelines, so I will continue to post updates about the reading assignments :) Thank you Pres. Hobbs

We will not be having class Monday due to Labor Day, and will pick back up on Tuesday.

The reading assignment is Moses 5 and Genesis 4

While reading, make note of the differences that you find between the two accounts of the story of Cain and Abel, and what sticks out to you.

Have a wonderful Holiday and I will see you Tuesday :)

August 30th

It was wonderful to see you guys today to talk about "The noble and great ones" that Abraham saw and thank you for the participation! I told you I would keep you updated on the reading assignments, so here is your first one :)

Moses 1

Tada! That's it! So no excuses :) And trust me, this one is pretty interesting so you will want to have read it. Remember you are those "noble and great ones", thanks for coming to Seminary.

See ya tomorrow,

Sis. Findley

Another thing that might help is to check out the Student manual online {here} And on page 10 you will find a box titled "Understanding the Scriptures" which will give the definitions for words that are uncommon in our language today. Hope this helps!

Welcome!

I am so grateful to be teaching Seminary this year, and I am already in love with my class. I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know what is going to be going on this year in Seminary. We are learning from the Old Testament, and what a neat experience this will be because most people know very little about the Old Testament because it is...well, Old :) So it seems very intimidating. Hopefully this year we, as a class, can help each other learn more from the lessons of the Old Testament prophets and the fun stories that are in there as well.

This blog will be updated daily with the students reading assignment for next class. This will help not only the students to know what they can do to prepare, but gives the parents the opportunity to stay involved and know where there children are at in the Old Testament. Please encourage them to read as this will greatly increase their participation in class, and their understanding of the scriptures.

Thank you for encouraging your students to come to seminary. I know that it can be tough taking time out to drop them off and pick them up, but what a great opportunity they have to fortify themselves because they are bombarded with the world at school.

Like I said, I am very excited to teach Seminary this year and hopefully I can convey that excitement for learning. I will do my part in preparing for classes and teaching them the lessons of the Old Testament, please help them prepare by encouraging their scripture study! Together we can make this year awesome for them!
